Schedel, Hartmann (1440-1514). "Folium CCXVII". A leaf from Schedel's Liber Chronicarum (also Nuremberg Chronicle). Published by A. Koberger in Nuremberg, 1493. With a total of 6 woodcuts by M. Wolgemut (recto the dancers in Maastricht – the collapse of the bridge over the Meuse River in Maastricht in 1275 – the dancers on the bridge refused to stop their dance to let the host pass, whereupon the bridge collapsed and 200 people drowned; a lion with a human face and the Simas twins; verso Popes Martin IV and Honorius IV and fishermen catching a sea lion in a net). 46,5:31 cm (18 1/4 x 12 1/4 inch).

 Michael Wolgemut (also Wohlgemuth; 1434, Nuremberg - 1519 ibidem) was a German painter and graphic artist, in whose workshop Albrecht Dürer also studied. - The richly illustrated chronicle was published in Latin and German in 1493 and is one of the most beautiful and valuable incunabula. There are a total of 1,800 woodcuts on the foil pages. The text of the Chronicle deals with the history of the world, which is divided into seven periods since the creation of the world.
