Samuel Auguste André David Tissot (1728 in Grancy - 1797 in Lausanne) was a Swiss physician and professor of medicine who wrote numerous works, including his book on epilepsy, which was widely read and translated into numerous languages. He also became known as the author of a book against masturbation. Tissot was of the opinion that the ‘vice of masturbation’ could destroy both body and mind. His pamphlet L'Onanisme, published in 1760, in which he claimed that masturbation caused illness, went through numerous editions and translations. - Old handwritten exlibris on titlepage, otherwise very well preserved.
