Carl Ludwig Willdenow (1765 in Berlin - 1812 ibid.) was a German botanist, pharmacist and plant taxonomist. He is considered one of the founders of phytogeography, the discipline that deals with the distribution of plants on earth. He was also the mentor of Alexander von Humboldt, one of the first and best-known phytogeographers. He also influenced Christian Konrad Sprengel, a pioneer in the field of plant pollination and flower biology. His official botanical author abbreviation is "Willd.".
