Published by Willem and Joan Blaeu in Amsterdam, 1640. Engraved by D. Grijp after captain Smith map of Virginia. Orig. old colouring. With ornamental title-cartouche, another ornament. cartouche with the scale of map ("Miliaria Germanica communia 15 pro Uno gradu"), a cartouche with explanatory notes ("Notarum explicatio"), great coat of arms, a wind-rose, a depiction of an Indian and of "Satus Regis Powhatan" (Virginia Indian tribe). 37,5:48 cm (14 3/4 x 19 inch.).

Koeman II, map 9410:2.2, ed. 2:201 (1640-43 Latin); Burden 193, state 2. - The map is the first and most important derivative of John Smith's map of Virginia originally published in 1612. Oriented to the West.
