"Orbis Terrarum Nova et Accuratissima Tabula. Auctore Nicolao Visscher". N. J. Visscher's very decorative map of the world in two hemispheres. Orig. copper-engraving, published by J. Janssonius in Amsterdam, 1658. Orig. old colouring. Shirley 406: "Nicolaas Visscher's new world map in two hemispheres can be regerded as the master forerunner of a number of highly decorative Dutch world maps produced throughout the remainder of the century". - Some cracks around the centerfold, in margins, some of them affecting the picture, and some in oxidated green colour in the map, all expertly restored.
