Africa."Totius Africae tabula & descriptio universalis, etiam ultra Ptolemaei limites extensa". Original wood-cut after C. Ptolemaeus' map of Africa published by Sebastian Munster, ca. 1550. With Latin heading title, ornamental cartouche and rich illustrations. 25,5:34,5 cm (10 x 13 3/4 inch.).

Norwich, Map 3 - One of the first modern maps of the whole continent. It shows Portugese discoveries which led to the opening of a sea route to the East Indies. The map is illustrated with crowns and scepters, forests, parrots, an elephant, a Cyclops (Monoculi) and a large galleon under full sail. - Latin text on verso.
