Jeremias Wolff - Heirs, Augsburg, ca. 1725. Large folio (57,5:44 cm). A. Corvinus, M. Engelbrecht, J. B. Probst, G. H. Schifflen after drawings by (among others) P. Decker, G. P. Rugendas, A. Drentwett. Half-parchment binding from the time.
Each of the magnificent plates depicts a specific battle (arranged chronologically, as the wars unfolded), which is shown in the central part of the engraving; the entire image is surrounded by a Baroque decorative frame composed of architectural, allegorical, and heraldic symbols and accompanied by a descriptive text about the battle. Many of the plates also contain a small vignette depicting the battlefield. - Depicted are (among others) the battles of Capri, Bonn, Gibraltar, Málaga, Barcelona, Turin, the conquest of the island of Mallorca, Milan, and Zaragoza. - The paper cover of the binding scuffed; the parchment spine and corners soiled. - Three engravings (the capture of the Belgian city of Huy, the Italian city of Tortona, and the island of Sardinia) are missing—they were not bound into the volume.
