Strait of Magellan. "Exquisita & magno aliquot mensium periculo Lustrata et iam retecta Freti Magellanici Facies". Orig. copperplate engraving, G. Mercator and J. Hondius, 1606. Published by H. Hondius in Amsterdam, 1630. With ornamental title-cartouche with 2 penguins, a large wind rose, a cartouche with the scale of map, another cartouche with a profile of islands on the eastern side of the strait, sailing ships and animals (seals, whale). 35:46 cm (13 3/4 x 18 1/4 inch.).

Koeman I, Map 9950:1A.2, Ed. 1:107 (1630 Latin). - A very decorative map of the Strait of Magellan - one of the first printed maps to focus on this particular strait, which at the time was the only known route west between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Oriented to the South. - Nice, rich impression. At centrefold in the middle 4 small wormholes.
