Koeman I, map 0030:1.4. - This oval map of the southern part of the southern hemisphere (from the South Pole to the Tropic of Capricorn) is one of the first printed maps showing Abel Tasman's discoveries: the west coast of Australia ("Nova Hollandia detect Anno 1644"), the southern tip of Tasmania (Van Diemen's Land - "Ant. van Deim. Landt. Detect 1642") and the coast of New Zealand ("Nova Zeelandia detect 1641"). - Title cartouche from the original Hondius' map erased to make place for the discovery of New Zealand. - Corners are filled with native scenes, including animals, birds and boats. - Old green colour oxidated and paper cracked underneath. Professionally restored.
