Diepenbeke ("one of Rubens' best pupils and assistants"), engraved by Peeter Clouwet (1629-1670), first published in "Methode et invention nouvelle de dresser les chevaux (A general system of horsmanship in all it's branches)" by William Cavendish (1592-1676), 1st Duke of Newcastle; Antwerp, ca. 1670. 37:49,5 cm (14 1/2 x 19 1/2 inch.).
Shows the Duke of Newcastle on a horseback. With coat of arms holded by four cherubs, a man holding Duke's helmet, another 2 cherubs and a battle in the backgroung. Beautiful engraving. - "During the reign of Charles I of England, van Diepenbeeck was in England where, besides painting portraits of the Duke of Newcastle and his family, the artist illustrated that nobleman's book on "Horsemanship"."
