J. R. Forster was a German naturalist of partially Scottish descent who made contributions to the early ornithology of Europe and North America. He is best known as the naturalist on James Cook's second Pacific voyage (1772-1775), where he was accompanied by his son Georg Forster (1754-1794). - Contains chapters: "Fundamenta et Termini Ornithologiae" (pp. 1-38), "... Ichthyologiae" (pp. 39-88), "... Entomologiae" (pp. 89-160) and "Termini Botanici" (pp. 161-224). - Bookbinding frayed, edges rubbed. Heraldical ex-libris of Earl Belcredi, his library stamp and handwritten signature on the flyleaf. Text clean, fresh - unread. - Very rare!
