Rome: Vitalis Mascardi, 1656. First edition. 4°. (8), 464, (24) p. Original contemporary leather binding with the title label on the spine.

One of the most Kircher's unique works. The only purely astronomical text of the brilliant Jesuit, but in addition also one of the most fascinating book with fantastic content, which anticipates the travels in the universe and travel adventures in the oceans and the earth of Jules Verne. In dialogue form accompanied the author two cosmonauts on their trips to the moon, the sun, all the known planets and to the stars. The first text, that deals with space exploration. Kircher takes on Tycho Brahe's idea of the sun as head of the Earth. Already in its appearance, the text was massively criticized as pure speculation and a hidden recognition of the Copernican doctrine. Only in the first edition is the original Kircher's text available. The later editions by Schott were changed by the publishers significantly to protect Kircher from his critics. - The spine of the book was professionally restored. The missing first 8 pages of Index were, already in 17th century, replaced by the bookbinder with 4 leaves of contemporary paper.
