Denis Diderot (1713, Langres, Champagne - 1784, Paris) was a French Enlightenment writer, Freemason and philosopher. He was interested in many fields - philosophy, aesthetics, theology, mathematics, physics. He was the leader of a group of French progressive scientists and philosophers, brought together to write the Encyclopédie or Rational Dictionary of Sciences, Arts and Crafts. - Jean Baptiste Le Rond d'Alembert (1717 - 1783, Paris) was a French mathematician and physicist, an Enlightenment philosopher, a member of the French, Berlin and St. Petersburg Academies of Sciences, and the editor of the Encyclopédie.
