Central Europe."Tabula Europae IIII". Orig. copper-engraving from G. Ruscelli's edition of Ptolemy's Geography. Published in Venice by G. Ziletti, 1562. With depictions of several animals, including bison, a long-horned bull, a moose, and a nocturnal bird on the right, and title above the map. 18,5:25 cm (7 1/4 x 10 inch.).

A Ptolemaic map of Ancient Central Europe (Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Bohemia, Poland, Hungary ...). - Some very small cracks in centerfold expertly restored. - Girolamo Ruscelli's edition of Ptolemy's Geographia included newly engraved copperplates by Giulio and Livio Sanuti. The curious fact is that this map is one of two that were engraved on the same plate, printed and than separated for the book. This can be seen by the fact that the plate mark of the map runs off the top of the page.
