List of works by author Hiebel, Jan

Jan (Johann) Hiebel (1681-1755) was a draughtsman, painter and fresco painter born in Ottobeuren, Bavaria. He studied in Munich and, among other places, in Vienna. From about 1707 until the end of his life he lived in Prague, where he was admitted to the guild of Old Town painters in 1710 (1730-1749 he held the office of guildmaster). Even more recent dictionary literature (Horová) states that he began to devote himself to book graphics only at the end of his life, when he was unable to practise fresco painting for health reasons. However, the identified drawings, which were mostly reproduced by the copper engraver Anton Birkhard, testify to a continuous intermingling of Hiebel's illustration and painting activities. From the collaboration between Hiebel and Anton Birkhard we know, for example, several versions of portraits of Franz Anton Count von Sporck.
