Abraham Ortelius (4. oder 14. April 1527 in Antwerpen - 28. Juni 1598 ebenda) war ein flämischer Kartograph und Geograph. Er gilt allgemein als einer der Gründer der niederländischen Schule für Kartographie und Geographie. Er war eine wichtige Figur dieser Schule in ihrer Blütezeit (etwa 1570 - 1670). Die Veröffentlichung seines Atlasses (Theatrum Orbis Terrarum) im Jahr 1570 wird oft als offizieller Beginn des goldenen Zeitalters der niederländischen Kartographie angesehen. Ortelius gilt heute auch als der erste, der aufgrund der zueinanderpassenden Umrisse vermutete, dass die Kontinente früher einmal zusammengehangen hätten (Pangaea) und später durch "Erdbeben und Fluten" zerbrochen seien.
